Brand new web presence for the Saarland-based mineral oil plant
Saarlouis. Lubricant manufacturer MÉGUIN has given its website a complete overhaul as part of the planned expansion of brand awareness in Germany and abroad. The new design is accompanied by a host of new and improved functions such as the product database, authorised dealer concept and press area.
“At MÉGUIN we place great value on the brand, which is why the company’s website is our virtual flagship,” says head of marketing, Peter Baumann, explaining the importance of the Internet presence. Over the past years, the previous website evolved into a key source of information for retailers, industrial enterprises and end consumers. To keep up with the rapid development of the Internet, MÉGUIN decided to give the website a face lift: “Continuous improvement is one of our principles. That’s why we always put everything under the microscope,” says Baumann. With the visual changes, the company is taking advantage of the latest technical possibilities and keeping up with user behaviour, which has changed in some ways. The most obvious differences lie in the much faster loading times and new design. This is all due to MÉGUIN’s content management system – a new database used to manage and design the website.
Search with success
The real centrepiece of www.meguin.de is the product database, which offers a range of parameters. This means that users can find the information they want quickly via the product category, article number, engine or gear oil recommendation or language. The search has a wealth of subcategories and is easy to use. The search results are also presented in the same refreshing style. Standard results include almost all relevant information on the article in question: description, usage, recommendations and brochures. The display of all containers in all language variants is particularly useful for the export business.
The authorised dealer concept is a new feature on the web and a key element of customer care. This part of the website provides information on the vitally important sales partners with their tasks and roles as representatives of the MÉGUIN brand and the first ports of call in their regions.
The offer for journalists has also been expanded and collected in a separate area under “Aktuelles” (news). The latest news is reported on the welcome page under “MÉGUIN Top News”. The media industry is also offered detailed information on the company with additional press releases, a clip report and archive.
Overview and clear layout
At MÉGUIN, flat hierarchies are the norm – because short communication channels enable fast decision-making, which is a serious advantage. The company has always sworn by this principle, including on the Internet: The website boasts a clear, well-organised structure and doesn’t require many clicks. So there wasn’t much that needed altering. According to Baumann, both the old and new websites deserve top marks: “Users can see that and find it out for themselves.” The home page is a serious but by no means scant guide. The new design is backed by tried-and-tested features with a little tweaking here and there: The directions now include a route planner, for instance. All in all, the site is easier for both users and designers to utilise. “Thanks to the new software, we can now do a lot of things that others did for us in the past. This saves time and gives us more scope,” says the head of marketing, totting up the benefits of the new system. He is convinced that the website’s new look is just right and will be accepted by all its users.
